Society and Alcohol Usage: What is Causing The Growing Drinking Culture?

Although legal drinking age in the United States is 21, but students all around the country are so ecstatic for the concept of drinking that they abuse the use of alcohol. Drinking has become a norm in a number of families.

The Growing Culture of Drinking in the United States:

Whether the gathering is for Christmas dinner, thanksgiving, New Years, and bridal showers or even for baby showers and birthdays, alcohol has become a choice for beverage among the adults and seemingly among the youngsters as well. The notion has been hyped so much so that today a number of homes have bars. All this socializing and the use of alcohol has become a fast “drinking culture.”

According to the studies of Centers for Disease Control (CDC) it has been reported that out of every six one U.S. adult is binge drinker, which means that an average male can take up to five drinks or more at a time.

Reasons behind the Building up of Drinking Culture among the People:

If you wonder, why people today have the tendency to booze it up so frequently, here are a list of things that have encouraged this behavior:

  • You Catch On Things You See On The Screens:

Television, media, commercials are all the reasons for promoting the hyped drinking trend. According to a study, published in the journal “Alcohol and Alcoholism,” the exposed images of people drinking alcohol and celebrating will more likely incline you to drink.

This study was conducted on eighty males who were aged between 18 and 29.The subjects were both alcoholic and non-alcoholic and those, exposed to more alcohol-dominant media, drank an average of 1.5 bottles (300 ml) more.

  • Impacts Of Inflations And The Economic Crisis:

The University of Miami found out that the worsening of economy in any country would result in the increase of number of people being wasted. Unemployed people are more frequently drunk, even at daytime, than those who have full-time jobs.

The study, which took into survey a time of 4 years on 43000 people, stated that every time the unemployment was increased by 1 percent, there was a 17 percent increase in the cases of alcohol abuse.

  • Pleasure Center Of The Brain:

Scientists also believe that drinking released good chemical, endorphin, which works as brain receptor. According to the studies from University of California, the regions of the brain lit up after alcohol use by 13 heavy drinkers as compared to the brains of 12 infrequent ones.

  • Cranking Up Loud Music And Drinks:

The reason for people trashing in the bars and clubs is a result of the loud music playing there. The study in “Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research” showed that 40 male subjects showed positive correlation between loud music and the amount of time it took men to empty their vine glasses. When the music was loud, it took an average person 12 minutes to finish a drink while 15 minutes when the music was at a normal level.

If you want to quit drinking or know someone with drinking problem, it is better that you pass this information on to them and spread the awareness to finish the alcohol addiction among the people.
