Ingredients:
1 qt oil for deep fryer
1 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 up yellow cornmeal
1/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp bacon drippings
1 egg, beaten
1 1/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 lbs hotdogs
wooden sticks
Directions:
Heat the deep fryer to 365 F
In a large mixing bowl stir together the flour and the next 4 ingredients. Next stir in the drippings. Make a well in the center of the mixture and add the egg, buttermilk and baking soda mix until smooth and well blended.
Dry hotdogs with paper towel to help batter to stick. Insert wooden sticks. Dip hotdogs in the batter one at a time shaking off any excess batter. Deep fry 2-3 at a time until they are brown to your liking. Remove excess oil with paper towel and serve.
