Parking Lot Idiots

I can probably speak for most people when I say I hate driving in the winter. Not only do you have to deal with snow, ice, scraping and warming up the car you have to deal with the idiots on the road. We were hit with a lot of snow and freezing temperatures and it threw everyone off. Unfortunately, life doesn’t stop for the weather so people still had to go to work and to the grocery store. Well I’ll tell you I have never been more frustrated in parking lots then I have been the past month.

Lets get a couple of things straight. Number one people can’t park in general. So throw snow into the mix and what do you get? Parking lines that you can’t see. So now you have people parking on angles when it’s straight or people taking up two spots instead of one. Another thing that annoys me is when you come back to your car only to find out you can’t get in it because some idiot decides that he doesn’t need to leave you any space to get into your car so you either have to crawl in through the passenger side or stand there and wait.

Another thing that really gets to me is people who are impatient. Now I understand people with small kids are just trying to do regular errands like everyone else and that they are probably tired but I think that is no excuse for being impatient and rude.

Picture this you are in the parking lot and just finished loading the last of your groceries into the car. When a woman decides to pull up on your side of the vehicle in one of the MANY parking spots available. This was a regular spot it wasn’t close to the store and it wasn’t one of those family spots either. So she sees that your trunk has been closed and your cart is gone. It’s safe to say that you are probably going to get in your car and pull out. Well instead of waiting the one minute it would take you to get into your car and leave she decides that she’s going to get out of her car and block your access with her door as she takes her small child out of the car seat while you stand there looking at her as she fumbles for 5 minutes. Now the polite thing to do would have been for her to just sit in her warm car and let you get into your car. Now some of you may not care but that really got on my nerves. Like why can’t people just wait for one minute or park properly because guaranteed they would be just as pissed off if they were in that situation.

Shoveling Snow Sucks

Over the past month we have had a ridiculous amount of snow. The roads were terrible the first time around. Waiting for the roads to be cleared was almost as frustrating as dealing with the cold snap. Now it’s not as cold out but we are still dealing with all of the snow. The side of the street we park on is sloped downwards so when it snows or rains it floods our side of the street. We aren’t a major road and we don’t have a bus route through our neighbourhood which means are streets don’t get cleared or at least they aren’t a priority. Today we spent a good two hours clearing snow off the road so we can pull in and out of the driveway and park along the street. Layers of ice and hardened snow are not easy to break through. I tell you I’ll be feeling the pain and stiffness tomorrow.

Income for All

I recently stumbled upon a great article at the star,An article about guaranteeing income for all Canadians. A guaranteed annual income, wow what a concept. I never really gave a concept like that a thought. It is already in use in some form or another in other countries. This is a way to rid Canada of poverty. Canada has more than 1.5 million people living below the poverty line, with most of that number being children. With current social programs people struggle to get above that line. Some one on welfare is penalized for taking a job to get ahead. There are claw-backs that reduce the assistance they receive, once they take their minimum wage jobs. Getting a job at minimum wage is no better than receiving social assistance. Many employed people are the working poor. Living in shelters, going to food banks, not able to afford the basic necessities.

I do not believe that, in a country such as Canada, fellow citizens must live so far below what we consider a poverty line that they are unable to provide the basic necessities of shelter, food and clothing for themselves and their children. And based on the current allowances provided by the welfare system, I also refuse to accept that people purposely choose to avoid employment in order to subsist on such a paltry income.

Individuals who turn to welfare do so as a last recourse. Whether the situation is the result of abuse, job loss, lack of education or training, addiction or single-parent households, our duty as Canadians and human beings is to guarantee an income that allows people to provide for themselves and their families while affording them a level of dignity that boosts confidence and inspires hope.

I have read some grate blogs on the subject of Guaranteed Annual Income. I would like to link back to some of them.

Reading these articles have really opened my eyes to the concept of a Basic Income in Canada. Maybe it’s time for the Country to move toward this program. What do you think about a guaranteed annual income?

Lacking Quality

It seems I have hit a wall. I have lost the ability to write any post. I don’t have enough time anymore. I have swayed away from what Malewail was supposed to be. I wanted to write post regarding men’s issues. But all I write about are contest, money making, Entrecard and other general crap. Although I did win a few contests, and the prizes were great.

Where content is supposed to king, Malewail is lacking good quality content. So I am looking for any advice or ideas from the readers out there. What should Malewail write about? Should I get Guest Bloggers? Do anyone want to be a guest blogger or a regular blogger on Malewail?

Entrecard Support Rocks

Entrecard so far has been great for sending new traffic to my blog and I am also getting to find a lot of blogs that I may have never seen. Hell even John Chow stopped by and checked my site out and I was pretty lucky to get an ad spot on his blog on December 27. I also have a spot on John Cow for December 21.

This is all great but when I set up the service, I missed typed my email address . Now I can’t get it changed to the right one. I mixed up two letters in the address. I let support know on December 4 about my error and it is still not fixed. They did reply and asked what I would like it to be changed to, but still nothing, that was December 6. December 11 I asked once again is it possible to have my email changed . They replied saying they would have a developer fix it that night. Well it is December 18 and I still have the wrong email address.

This really sucks. I cannot get any mail from the Entrecard service. And I will loose all my credits and ad spots if I reapply with the right email address. I guess I should have doubles checked my typing when I signed up.

I still think the service is awesome. Great source of visitors and discovery. I just wish they would fix my email address.

Vacation Update

Well my vacation that started on Aug 3 2007 has ended. I go back to work on Monday. I camped at Handhills High Country Hideaway. It was a beautiful and peaceful campground east of Drumheller, Alberta. Of course i stayed in a tent that was shorter than me. I’m six foot two. The air mattress barely fit in the tent, there was no way i was sleeping on the ground. I didn’t get a picture of me hanging out of the tent however i did get a picture of the tent.

I really enjoyed being able to get away from work and the city. I did some fishing, which was unsuccessful. I sat by the fire and relaxed, roasted marsh mallows and hotdogs.

Even took some time to finish reading Tim Ferriss’ The 4-Hour Work Week. It was a great place to sit and read the chapter on Liberation. Makes it hard to go back to work, one week of isn’t enough time.

Oh well back to the grind, dealing with customers and clients that are so hard to keep happy. I work in the temporary staffing industry. Which is such high demand in the busy city of Calgary. Calgary currently has the highest demand for Labour in Canada. I see small and big businesses going out of business all the time. I’ll write more on that in a later post.

Back to the Vacation, Like I said in my last post I was going to visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum. Which was awesome. It is a world class museum, it has the most extensive collection of dinosaur fossils and exhibits on prehistoric life. I made a couple of video’s of the visit. The quality is not the best but it shows most of the displays inside the museum.

That is one video of the displays in the museum, I could have spent hours video taping every little detail, but I would still be there taping. I also filmed the Jungle they have in the museum that resembles Alberta in prehistoric days.

It was pretty neat to walk into a Jungle although it was inside the museum.

Back at the campsite there was constantly these little bunnies running around. I got some more shaky video of the bunnies they were so funny.

On the last night the weather decide to go side ways on us. A big thunderstorm rolled in so we decided to get out of there before we got too wet. We video taped the trip back to Drumheller which included an interesting sunset.

That was all of the vacation. The rest of time I spent watching Movies and reading blogs.

Introducing Ask Malewail

I have been on Vacation for awhile now. I haven’t been updating Malewail that often. This past Friday I attended a Murder Mystery party. It was a lot of fun. I played a mortician Jacob Holloway. I was a morbid undertaker that was very suspicious. I never got any pictures or video tape of the murder. But I did get a video of the pig roast that followed.

I will be out camping for the next few days. I will be visiting Drumheller, Alberta where the Royal Tyrrell Museum is located. So I will try and upload some new videos from that and some pictures.

Where is Everyone Going?

I was driving the other day and traffic was backed up. It was raining pretty hard and some streets are flooding. So I am waiting patiently for traffic to move. But there is always people that don’t want to wait and move ahead and try to butt into line. Like really they are just pissing off everyone else. They slow down the flow of traffic when they do this. I never let anyone in that don’t have the patients to wait their turn. People must think I’m a complete ass when I do this. I waited my turn and they can wait theirs. Really where is everyone going? They are only going to work. Safety should be first. And if you have to be on time watch the news or listen to the radio, it will tell you of the traffic problems. Just leave a little early. and don’t piss me off.

Ads or Weather?

Advertising it getting way out of control. I like many get work outdoors and checking the weather before work is important. I used to be able to turn on the Weather Channel and check out the weather. Now it seems that commercials dominate over relaying the weather. I am guessing that there are alot of people caught in the rain eating yogurt.
